Colbún Reaches Agreement to Achieve 100% Ownership of Peruvian Power Generator Fenix

Apr 29, 2025, 18:15 PM by User Not Found
Colbún's CEO, José Ignacio Escobar, stated that this operation reaffirms the Company's internationalization strategy and opens opportunities to advance in the portfolio of renewable projects that Fenix is developing in Perú.

As part of its international expansion process, Colbún S.A., through its subsidiary Colbún Perú S.A., has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire 41.4% of the ownership of Fenix Power Perú from a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). With this transaction, Colbún S.A. will become the sole owner of the Fenix combined cycle power plant, a natural gas-fueled facility with an installed capacity of 572 MW.

The transaction is part of Colbun's internationalization plan, through which the power company seeks to geographically diversify its portfolio, expand its installed capacity, and enhance the development of renewable projects in the region. Through this acquisition, the company reaffirms its confidence in the potential of the Peruvian market and its electrical system, a country where Colbun has been present since 2015, the year it entered Fenix's ownership as a controlling partner.

The closing of the operation is subject to usual conditions in this type of transactions, including the approval of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property of Perú.

"Following this acquisition, on behalf of Colbún, we want to emphasize our firm commitment to the Peruvian market and electrical system and mark another step in our internationalization strategy. We hope to continue enhancing the development of our portfolio of renewable energy projects in Perú and continue offering sustainable and efficient energy solutions for our customers," highlighted José Ignacio Escobar, CEO of Colbún.

Fenix closed the year 2024 with a 6% share in the Peruvian power market in terms of energy generated and has a portfolio of solar and wind projects at various stages of development, whose materialization is subject to the energy needs of its customers and the Peruvian electrical system.
