Vocational Education: Students at Colbún’s Ignacio Carrera Pinto High School Earn Key Certification to Help Them Enter the Workforce

Seven students from the Liceo Ignacio Carrera Pinto in Colbún obtained the Class D Electrical Installer Certification thanks to a public-private partnership led by Colbún S.A., marking a concrete milestone in youth employability and local technical training.

  • Young students successfully validated their competencies in residential electrical installation, following a training process that spanned throughout last year.

During April, seven students from the Liceo Ignacio Carrera Pinto in Colbún, specializing in electrical trades, reached a significant milestone in their technical-vocational education by obtaining the Class D Electrical Installer Certification, validating their competencies for the workforce through a public-private partnership.

The training process was carried out by Colbún S.A. through the Ministry of Education's Red Futuro Técnico, together with AHK Chile, Sence, ChileValora, and the CFT del Maule, building connections that enabled progress from training all the way to the effective certification of competencies

“For Colbún S.A., supporting these kinds of initiatives is very important, because we know they directly contribute to the employability of young people and the development of their talents. We firmly believe in creating opportunities that allow them to envision their future with more tools, thus helping to transform their lives and those of their families,” said Carolina Jacques, Head of Central Communities for the Maule Zone.

The certification was presented at a ceremony attended by local authorities, education officials, and representatives of the productive sector, highlighting the collaborative work among different institutions to strengthen youth training.

“We are very grateful to Colbún S.A. for believing in this project and supporting us as coordinators of this process. This is an important challenge, especially in the electrical field, where holding this certification is essential for young people to be able to work. There is a complete ecosystem here that made this result possible: prior education, training, and assessment, which ultimately translates into real opportunities for students and their families,” said Lorena Olivares, Dual Training and Capacity Building Manager at AHK Chile.

This achievement is the result of a process that unfolded throughout 2025, during which students prepared through the State CFT, acquiring technical knowledge and strengthening their skills ahead of the final assessment.

From the students' perspective, the impact was immediate both technically and personally. “It was quite rewarding. I am very happy and so is my family. This certification is useful for the workforce, especially in residential electrical work, because now we know we can do the job well. It has also helped me greatly in my current studies — I even help my classmates thanks to what I learned,” said Ignacio Vera, a former student at the school, who is currently enrolled in a technical training center in the mechanical field.

Madeline Romero, a student from the Liceo Ignacio Carrera Pinto class of 2025, valued the process and the personal growth achieved: “It was something very beautiful and meaningful, something I didn't think I would accomplish. I learned to trust myself and my abilities. I think the difference was in the focus and the responsibility. This certification will serve me for whatever work I want to do in the future,” she noted.

From the school, they highlighted the impact of these initiatives on students' trajectories. “We are very pleased with this achievement, because it marks a before and after in the lives of our students. They didn't just graduate from school — they did so with concrete tools that allow them to face the world differently, with greater opportunities. We especially appreciate the support of Colbún S.A., which has been key in making these kinds of opportunities possible,” said Omar Navarrete, Principal of the Liceo Ignacio Carrera Pinto in Colbún.

It is worth noting that this milestone is part of Colbún's “Impulsa tu Futuro” (Boost Your Future) pillar, which promotes local education and training programs aimed at improving competencies and strengthening local capabilities.
