Parque Arauco and Colbún signed a 100% renewable energy supply agreement covering 21 commercial assets in Chile over six years, avoiding 225,000 tonnes of CO₂ — equivalent to planting 350,000 trees annually — consolidating a strategic alliance that accelerates decarbonization across Chile's commercial and urban sector.
The agreement will supply 100% renewable energy to 21 shopping centers across the country, avoiding the emission of 225,000 tonnes of CO₂ over six years.
Santiago, April 30, 2026.- In a concrete signal of how sustainability is being integrated as a long-term strategic decision, Parque Arauco announced the signing of a commercial agreement with Colbún for the supply of 100% renewable energy over the next six years, covering its main commercial assets in Chile.
The agreement covers the supply of renewable energy to 21 Parque Arauco assets, distributed across 10 shopping centers, 7 strip centers, and 4 outlets, spanning from the Antofagasta to the Biobío region, mainstreaming the use of clean energy across the company's operations. In this context, Parque Arauco Kennedy accounts for approximately 40% of total consumption under the contract.
It is worth noting that Parque Arauco's full portfolio — its 30 assets — already operates with more than 98% renewable energy.
This alliance is part of Parque Arauco's sustainability strategy, which seeks to embed environmental and energy efficiency criteria directly into the way its assets are designed, operated, and managed — understanding sustainability not as an additional attribute, but as a business enabler for operational resilience and future growth.
These initiatives directly contribute to reducing the operational carbon footprint and advancing Scope 1 and 2 decarbonization targets validated by Science Based Targets. In this context, Parque Arauco is the first shopping center company in South America to have targets approved under this standard.
The contract provides for an annual supply of 150,000 MWh across 40 connection points, with 100% I-REC certification, guaranteeing that all energy comes entirely from renewable sources.
The environmental impact of the agreement is significant and measurable: the renewable energy supply will avoid the emission of approximately 37,500 tonnes of CO₂ per year, equivalent to removing nearly 10,000 vehicles from circulation or planting more than 350,000 trees annually. Over the six-year term of the contract, total mitigation will reach 225,000 tonnes of CO₂, positioning this agreement as one of the most significant decarbonization milestones in the operation of commercial and urban assets in Chile.
One of the key elements of this alliance was Colbún's commercial flexibility, which enabled a tailored agreement for Parque Arauco, taking into account the diversity of its asset portfolio, its geographic distribution, and its goal of advancing steadily in decarbonization without sacrificing competitiveness or operational efficiency.
“This decision reflects our conviction that sustainability must be integrated at the heart of the business. Moving toward the use of 100% renewable energy across Parque Arauco's assets is part of a profound transformation of our operations, aimed at reducing environmental impacts and operating in an increasingly efficient and responsible manner,” said Andrés Torrealba, General Manager of Parque Arauco's Chile Division.
From Colbún, the company highlighted the role that these agreements play in the country's energy transition. “This alliance reflects the meeting of two purpose-driven companies, where sustainability is central to the business. At Colbún, we support our clients with renewable energy generated from our own assets, with commercial flexibility and tailored solutions, demonstrating that decarbonization is possible today, with concrete and long-lasting environmental impacts,” said José Ignacio Escobar, CEO of Colbún.
In this way, Parque Arauco and Colbún consolidate an alliance that demonstrates how collaboration between one of the country's leading urban infrastructure operators and one of Chile's most significant renewable energy generators can accelerate the energy transition, generate shared value, and actively contribute to addressing climate challenges.
